HOW TO BECOME A MENTOR
Thank you for your interest in mentoring
with Chester County Futures! Chester County Futures is a unique program that combines
individual mentoring with academic enrichment and scholarship assistance. Our students are
nominated into the program because of their desire to pursue
a post-secondary education even though they face significant
challenges. Our mentors, either one-to-one mentors, or those
who choose to share life experiences through our “mentor
talent bank”, are dedicated individuals from every age
group and walk of life who want to make a difference in the life
of a teenager.
Application Process
To find out more about the application process, please review
our Mentor
Program Brochure (PDF file, 1.7Mb)
Mentor training takes place in a single evening and lasts approximately an hour and a half.
Throughout the process
the Futures staff is here to answer any questions or concerns
about the program. We can also provide the names and numbers
of other mentors if you would like to talk to them about the
program.
Once you have a completed the application process Chester County
Future will arrange the initial introduction between the mentor
and the student and their parents. Students in the program have
completed an extensive nomination process and have parental permission
to participate. After the first meeting you will be asked to
contact your student at least weekly and meet in person at least
monthly.
The Futures staff continues to provide support through enrichment
activities, regular newsletters, and meetings as required. This
is a program about individuals and we have the flexibility and
support network to customize our program to the unique strengths
and needs of our students and mentors. Our program coordinators
work closely with every student-mentor pair and the school district.
We ask that you keep them informed and to let us know about any
successes or problems.
