Sponsor a Scholar Program

Personalizing the Kindness of Strangers

Futures’ high school students sometimes ask about the people who so generously support them. Who are they? Why do they care about me? Little wonder they are curious and awed to learn that their fate matters to people they have never met. To satisfy their curiosity and personalize the kindness of strangers, we launched our new Sponsor a Scholar Program last summer.

Sponsor a Scholar allows a donor to play a highly personal one-on-one sponsorship role with a specific student. The sponsor donates up to $5,000 per school year to fund a student’s enrollment in Futures, covering school supplies, emergency assistance, achievement awards, etc. Sponsor and student exchange first names and learn a little about each other. As the school year unfolds, the sponsor will receive an occasional student progress report. To cap it off, sponsors will be VIP guests at Futures’ annual student awards banquet this spring.

The Kronenberg Scholar

Futures’ student, James, a Phoenixville 9th grader, is determined to get into college four years from now. He will be the first in his family to make it that far. He comes from a loving home, with parents who want him to have the education that eluded them. Last fall, James took a giant step toward his goal when a local businessman named Bill Kronenberg took the boy under his wing through Futures’ new Sponsor a Scholar Program.

Bill is a Phoenixville resident and a Principal with Marsh Creek Corporate Services, Exton. When he heard about Sponsor a Scholar, this busy family man saw it as a meaningful way to help a child in need. He agreed to sponsor James’ freshman year and pledged ongoing financial support through the boy’s high school and college years with Futures. To acknowledge this extraordinary commitment, Futures has designated James The Kronenberg Scholar.

Bill and James exchanged occasional messages and then met for the first time last November. It was a momentous event for both, a chance to forge a friendship as they embark on a shared journey that will likely change both of their lives.

Target Logo

Making a real difference every day in Chester County as a Chester County Futures’ Sponsor a Scholar partner Target is sponsoring a 9th grade Futures’ student named Elizabeth this school year. This 15-year old is determined to graduate from high school in 2009 and then head off to college. No one else in her family has gotten that far. Elizabeth was born in Mexico but has adapted well to her new homeland. Her parents work hard to support the family of five.

Target’s donation is directly supporting the academic and mentoring services Futures’ provides for Target Scholar Elizabeth in 2005-2006.

"It’s important to me to get into college…to learn what I want for my future job".
