Personalizing the Kindness of Strangers
Futures’ high school students sometimes ask about the people who so generously support them. Who are they? Why do they care about me? Little wonder they are curious and awed to learn that their fate matters to people they have never met. To satisfy their curiosity and personalize the kindness of strangers, we launched our Sponsor a Scholar Program.
Sponsor a Scholar allows a donor to play a highly personal one-on-one sponsorship role with a specific student. The sponsor donates up to $5,000 per school year to fund a student’s enrollment in Futures, covering school supplies, emergency assistance, achievement awards, etc. Sponsor and student exchange first names and learn a little about each other. As the school year unfolds, the sponsor will receive an occasional student progress report. To cap it off, sponsors will be VIP guests at Futures’ annual student awards banquet in the spring.
The Kronenberg Scholar
Futures’ student, James of Phoenixville, is determined to get into college. He will be the first in his family to make it that far. He comes from a loving home, with parents who want him to have the education that eluded them. The fall of his freshman year, James took a giant step toward his goal when a local businessman named Bill Kronenberg took the boy under his wing through Futures’ Sponsor a Scholar Program.
Bill is a Phoenixville resident and a Principal with Marsh Creek Corporate Services, Exton. When he heard about Sponsor a Scholar, this busy family man saw it as a meaningful way to help a child in need. He agreed to sponsor James’ freshman year and pledged ongoing financial support through the boy’s high school and college years with Futures. To acknowledge this extraordinary commitment, Futures has designated James The Kronenberg Scholar.
Bill and James exchanged occasional messages and then met for the first time in the November of James' freshman year. It was a momentous event for both, a chance to forge a friendship as they embark on a shared journey that will likely change both of their lives.
